The Legend of the Battle of Marathon-
490 B.C. 
A legend states that Pheidippides, an Athenian, ran 40km (24 miles) from the battlefield at the Marathon to Athens, to aunounce the Greek victory. According to the legend he later died from exhaustion.

Joan of Arc: 
1412- May 30, 1431
A peasant girl who grew to lead the French Army to many victories, including the hundred year war. She later burned at stake for ideas that were against established beliefs.
Black Death-
1348
A time of death, also known as the plague, was very scary. The black death was caused by infected fleas attaching to rats, then causing humans to develop painful swellings. Humans could also get sick from being around victims, effecting their respiratory systems. People would commonly die in a week or less, though there were a few survivors.
Magna Carta-
1215
A document, King John of England, was forced to sign. This document meaning Great charter, stated that John could not abuse nobles with many taxes and too much power.
Song Dynasty- 
960- 1275
A ruling dynasty in china, that was very significant because of the establishment of paper money, banknotes, a permanent navy, and use gunpowder. China was divided into Northern Song and Southern Song, during this dynasty. The Song dynasty controlled most of inner China.
Justinian-

13/14 November 565



Justinian 1, also known as, Justinian the Great was a Byzantine Emperor. He wanted to reclaim the western half of the classical Roman Empire.

The Reconquista-

722 - 1492
A time in the middle ages, in which Christians reconquered the Iberian peninsula (Now Spain and Portugal).
The Hijra: 
June 21st and July 2nd in 622 A.D.
The journey of the Islamic Prophet Muhammad and his worshipers from from Mecca to Medina, in the attempt to escape assassination. This began the starting point of the Muslim era.

Pax Romana - 
27 B.C. to 180 A.D.

A 200 year time span, meaning “Roman Peace”. Romans brought peace and prosperity to other countries and their own, creating trade with Africa and Asia.
Han Dynasty- 

206 B.C.–220 A.D.
The Han Dynasty was a time under which the silk road was created. This was not China’s golden age, but it still thrived because of the demand of silk. A system of Public schooling began, and education was recognized as important.

Hellenistic Civilization:



323 BC -146 BC 
A civilization that differentiated from that of original greek culture, that greatly influenced the ancient world. This culture was thought to have spread from Alexander the Great's , conquests.



                                                                 Gautama Buddha:

563 B.C.-483 B.C.
 A spiritual teacher and leader, who began the religion of Buddhism. He, was also referred to as Siddhārta Guatama. He was born in Nepal, and has greatly impacted the world.


The Phoenicians- 
1550 BC to 300 BC

An ancient Semetic civilization located on the western part of the Fertile Crescent, and centered currently where Lebanon is . They were masters at trade and navigating the sea.



Caste System-



1500 B.C. 
The system that decides the amount of labor and power, a person can do and have. This system also developed different social classes in India. This idea started in India in the religion Hinduism, however caste systems have been used in christianity, buddhism, and islamism.
Hammurabi-


1792-1750 BC
The greatest ruler of the Babylonian first dynasty. He helped win numerous wars against nearby kingdoms. He gained his power after the death of his father, Sin-Muballit the 6th ruler in the 1st Dynasty.






The Neolithic Agricultural Revolution-

10,000 - 3000 B.C.
 People began to stop being nomadic. They settled down in villages, and farmed to obtain food. Humans, also began to domesticate animals, like dogs.

The Olmecs -


                                                               14,000 B.C -500 B.C. 
The earliest american civilization, near the mexican gulf coast. Olmecs made calendars, used a form of writing, had the tradition of priestly leadership, and religious devotion, This civilization is one that archaeologist know very little about.
